GEOGRAPHY VOCABULARY UNITS 1-2
Plateau: a land area having a level surface raised much higher above nearby land.
Plains:a large, flat area of land not higher than nearby areas.
Glacier: an extended mass of ice formed from snow falling and gathering over the years and moving very slowly downward or outward.
Stream: a body of water flowing in a channel, as a brook.
Estuary: part of the mouth of a river in which its current meets the sea's tide.
Spring: the place where water comes up from the ground.
Surface:the outer face, outside, or exterior boundary of a thing.
Anthropic: of or pertaining to human beings or their span of existence on earth.
Daw:a barrier to obstruct or control the flow of water, built across a stream or river.
Crops: the plant, or the product of a plant, produced while growing or when gathered.
Collide:to strike each other forcefully.
Livestock: the horses, cattle, sheep, and other useful animals kept or raised on a farm or ranch.
Cattle ranching: large farm animals, as cows and steers, raised for their meat or milk.
Oaks:a tree or shrub of the beech family, which bears the acorn as its fruit.
Beeches:a tree having a smooth gray bark and small, triangular nuts.
Shrubs:a woody plant smaller than a tree.
Thickets:a dense growth of shrubs, bushes, or small trees.
Heather:a heath plant having small pinkish purple flowers.
Holm oak:an evergreen Mediterranean oak tree widely planted for ornament: the leaves are holly-like. when young but become smooth-edged with age.
Cork oak:an avergreen mediterranean oak tree, with a porous outer bask from which cork is obtained.
Steppe:a wide or vast plain, esp. one without trees.
Evergreen:having green leaves throughout the year.
Birches: a tree having a smooth, peeling outer bark and close-grained wood.
Boar:a male pig kept for breeding.
Fallow deer:a Eurasian deer, with a fallow or yellowish coat.
Stork:a wading bird having long legs and a long neck and bill.
Marten:the fur of such an animal, generally a dark brown.
Chamois:a small antelope much like a goat, of the high mountains of Europe.
Mink:a semiaquatic weasellike animal.
